I’m at the point where I’m starting to make myself sick over this whole presentation at the interview deal. I don’t know why though. I love doing presentations, I do them well, I know my stuff. But the question is so broad:

How do I envision students and researchers using paper and digital maps in their research?

I can talk for HOURS about this. I have a 30 minute window. While that seems like a really long time to talk about one thing it is truly amazing how quickly 30 minutes goes when you are doing a presentation. I have an outline, I have some good ideas but I don’t feel like I’m being creative enough in my presentation or my ideas…alright, one or two of the ideas are pretty cool…but do I do something cool, do I keep it simple with power point, do I make a website, do I include links, do I bring props? What are they really looking for? Are they checking to make sure I don’t turn into a blubbering idiot when I stand in front of a crowd of people? Are they looking to see just how creative I am and/or can be? Or is it just a formality - a part of the interview that has always been like that so we continue to do it.

I know what I look for when we have candidates interviewing. I look at a combination of all of those things…

I’m pretty frustrated with myself right now which is causing presentation writers block. I have to find a place where I can get on with this thing and be done with it so I can concentrate on other aspects of the interview. Luckily the presentation is in the morning so it gets done and over with and isn’t hanging over my head all day long!

Luckily I don’t have to worry about what I am going to wear!
